Posted - 30 July 2011 : 14:39:30 Hello all
Well Im into the final 4weeks of my BR. I can honestly say the time has flown by and waiting a year hasnt been as bad as I thought.
My question is what usually happens in thr final month of BR? my circumstances were reviewed at the 8month stage by the OR and I never heard anything back so I havent been made to pay an IPA/IPO.
Is there anything I should be doing or shouldnt be doing at this stage?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Posted - 05 August 2011 : 20:49:35 While no one wants an IPA I will never agree with refusing work to avoid one. Regarding creditors being culpable, at the end of the day we are all adults and therefore capable of saying no. I shouldn't have been able to borrow as much as I did, but I applied from it and no one twisted my arm to make me spend it, I did it of my own free will.
I appreciate that some people end up BR because of a change of circumstances beyond their control but I still don't condone refusing work to avoid an IPA.

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.
Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side. |

Posted - 05 August 2011 : 19:48:39 Doesn't matter how you end up in debt - the fact is that it should be paid off if possible, council tax, anything to do with HMRC etc.
If you can manage to pay back some of the debt then that has to be admired. I do not think that anyone should deliberately try and avoid paying back money that they owe.

Posted - 05 August 2011 : 18:55:58 I also don't agree with deliberately avoiding an IPA. Regardless of your feelings about your creditors, you initially took out the loans with the intention of paying them back. If you can pay something back then that has to be applauded.

I suppose opinion on this point will depend upon why one went bankrupt (the culpability of your creditors) and your other obligations in life.

Posted - 05 August 2011 : 12:10:57 Not sure I agree with Dormouse in deliberatly avoiding working during the 12 months of bankruptcy in an effort to avoid an IPA. I have always thought that, if you are able, then you should pay something back to the creditors, even if only a small amount, rather than trying to avoid paying anything at all costs.

No I could have worked, but saw no point if OR was going to take it all or force a payment plan on me. They have to have a payment plan in place before discharge which would then continue after discharge, thanks but no thanks. |

You can start earning whenever you like - it might affect whether or not you pay an IPA but you can work if you can get a job.

excellent idea, I might just do that or go off for a short holiday. I'm in exactly same boat as Carl - less than three weeks to go now and then I can start earning again
Hi New on here - why can you start earning again - did you have to stop then? or just earning less?
