if a car can be kept if its worth about 2500, can i keep a bike which is only worth around 600 for getting to work

The OP has actually edited his post and downgraded the value of the bike! It was originally £1800.

I think you may well have to give it up as Bigal says. I'm sure you can find a cheaper bike for work.

It's safe to say that the OR would view it as an asset to be realised. If it's used to get to work, then like a car they could let you have a proportion of the proceeds to get a reasonable replacement, but that would be up to the OR.
