Posted - 13 August 2011 : 15:10:21 Hi, i went bankrupt last tuesday an had my first OR call later that afternoon where she just asked a couple questions and gave me on next phone interveiw for thurs 18th next week all went well. She said that they would only be a face to face interview if they needed more detail. so a letter arrived this morning, where on the phone she asked for me to send back a copy of my rent agreement. But also the letter said that my interveiw for next thurs was a face to face one. Now im really worried! Im in rented accomodation, no car, that was sold about 10-11 months ago and low income which varies each month and housing benefit. My debts were 17.5k between 1 loan taken out 3 years ago 2 credit cards and 2 catalogues and ebay fees. Not used my cards for over 1 and half years, i couldnt anyway. Not been able to pay anything to anyone for at least 12 months now. Except one catalogue where i purchased goods about 8 months ago on buy now pay jan 2011 but then they started billing me for service charges each month of which i havnt paid any so far as i couldnt afford it, didnt think i wiuld have to pay anything for a year and i wasnt planning on going BR at this point. Over the years i have gambled and as result had got into debt although now it is something i dont ever need or want to do again. Im just so worried now with having a face to face interveiw. I dont have any property or money to my name. What is the worst that can happen to me? Thanks Anna |

Posted - 17 August 2011 : 10:02:57 Hi Anna,
I can understand your worries about having a face to face with the OR. This was my main concern, but luckily mine was done very quickly over the phone. I would try not to worry although that is easier said than done, but even with your gambling, they will probably ask how much you have gambled and whether you are seeking help with this. I was completely up front about my gambling and the OR did not judge me at all. I mentioned that I was currently undergoing counselling for this addiction. I also found out (later) that I had been banned from the casinos. This was probably due to the fact that the OR had been in contact with them and told them of my bankruptcy. I have now been discharged for 18 months and I didn't receive a BRU, which I thought I might, so it just goes to show that even if you have done something that could warrant a BRU, it doesn't necessarily mean you will get one.
Good luck with your interview. I'm sure it will be fine.

Posted - 13 August 2011 : 15:27:28 I wouldn't worry about the face to face - sometimes I think that is better than trying to explain things over the phone.
The worst that could happen as far as I am aware, is that you might get a BRU but I think the OR is just wanting to make sure everything is sorted.
