Posted - 25 August 2011 : 10:31:34 I work in NSW and am sponsored on 457 visa- i have a house in the UK and a loan both of which I can no longer afford to make payments on as my tenants moved out- can i decalre bankruptcy?

subject to you being out of the country for less than 3 yrs, you can still declare BR in the UK and then make a fresh start in NSW
before Declaring Bankrupt some basic arrangements / discussions need to be had
you can either Declare yourself BR (fly back to UK ) or get a company to act on your behalf it is called a lasting power of attorney.
LPA's are a very slow process, the person acting on your behalf will then petition for your BR at the high court in London.
I think Mel (one of this forums EXPERTS) has had dealings with LPA
