Hello. I had to leave my stressful job due to depression in June. I did actually work in trading in the stock market. Stupidly, I thought I could trade via spread betting firms for a living. I borrowed £33k since June and have lost all of it. If i were to go bankrupt, how would I be treated and what type of restriction might i get? many thanks if you can help.

Hi Tom.11

A lot depends on whether spread betting was part of your job or you took a gamble. The former would be acceptable but gambling is frowned upon. The term of your bankruptcy could be increased or you could get a Bankruptcy Rectrictions Order made against you for a certain length of time after your bankruptcy. This simply increases the length of time that the restrictions made against you when you declared yourself bankrupt are lifted.

Hope this helps.
