Posted - 21 September 2011 : 00:32:45 Hello Im desperate, my daughter has been living with a drug addict for the last 2 years, and in the summer this year he died of an overdose. The council rented property they shared was in an awefull state and we were rarley allowed full entry. When he died we had un-controlled entry and the place was a mess. We started re-decorating and cleaning etc etc. Over the last 2 weeks we have looked at un-opened mail plus current mail and are shocked to find that there are loans etc for many hundreds (if not Thousands) via people like Argos, Wonga, etc some of these were in my daughters name some were in partners. She is currently unemployed and very upset (at the current time) In late 2009 I forced her to apply for a DRO which was approved so can I ask why loans were approved by these companies after the DRO expired. I understand that you cannot apply for a DRO for 6 yrs. Her only hope is that she can apply to be declared bankrupt, she has no income (only benefits, including child benefit) Rent and Water arreas are probably an issue. Her partner was supposed to be taking care of the electricity and gas supplies, since entry into the property I found the electric meter had been bypassed and she was giving hime money for this (this is now in the hands of the supplier who have changed the meter) Im at my the end of my tether and any help and advice would be truly welcome. I can afford the fees for the court to get her out of trouble. |

Posted - 21 September 2011 : 09:57:20 Hello there, and a warm welcome to the forum
Your daughter would be best advised to make an appointment at her local Citizens Advice Bureau, with one of their Money Advisers (you would be able to attend with her)It may well be that bankruptcy is her best course of action, and they can help her with the debt/forms etc But visitng the CAB with her, you could be confident that she is getting the advice and support she needs
Hope this helps, Melanie
