I declared myself bancrupt in June 2009 and was discharged the following year, my parents are making a will and are worried that any inheritance could be seized, is this the case and if so then how long after discharge can a claim be made. Thanks

As your parents are still alive, then it doesn't matter what they leave you and when it goes through, nothing can be claimed now.

Thanks for the reply, does the same go for all property/trust funds etc or any other way of bequething assets on death?

Hi Mark,

As you are discharged and there is no inheritance yet, then it's yours to keep whenever you get it.

As far as I'm aware you would only need to declare an inheritance if the person leaving the money died before you were discharged.

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side.

If you have an IPA/IPO though, do you have to declare an inheritance?
