Posted - 09 November 2011 : 20:58:02 Hi, Can someone help me, I have received a call from a memeber of my family stating an address I lived at over 10 years ago has received 2 bank letters stating I have account / credit card with them and there is a credit balance. 1 of the banks I have never had an account with..Is this a case of fraud or some dodgy company trying to locate me through an old address..I am concerned that someone is trying to copy my identity...Also the family memember is worried that this will effect their credit rating...I have told them to return all mail which is addressed to me as addressee gone away..this is so weird and I am now worried sick...I thought this was all over...and how on earth would a company that I have never had dealings with use an address which I have not lived at for over 10 years. |

Posted - 12 November 2011 : 12:59:45 I would be wondering why you gave had these letters if you've had nothing to.do.with them unless they have taken over another company you had dealings with.
If it were me then I'd give them a ring to find out.

Posted - 12 November 2011 : 11:42:12 Hi, I have got hold of 1 of the letters, its personal savings statement, I don't even remember opening the account, I have a credit balance of £5.19, not sure why after all this time they would send a statement, 10 years is a long time...I have told my family member to return all mail addresssed to me or give it back to the postman and he will label it addressee gone away, as far as I'm concerned anyone that needs to know my address has it. The other letter which they returned, again said I had a credit balance and that was for a credit card and I have never had a card with this company....You would think such small amounts of money would be written off. I am right in saying to return the mail???? |

Posted - 11 November 2011 : 13:19:00 This happened to me regarding a catalogue debt ,i received a letter from a debt agency asking for a payment of £300 in relation to a debt which was in my name.I contacted them and was basically told i had to pay so i asked who was the debt with and when did it occur..i was told it was in 1996 at an address which id never lived at!!!plus i would of been 15 years old at the time.I think its the case that some companies just pull a matching name off a data base and try to pin point it on someone with the same name.I would go to see a solicitor and ask the to write to the company,it worked for me and i never received anything else!!1 Dont worry, hope the info helps x

Posted - 09 November 2011 : 21:13:42 Hi,
Any debt from ten years ago should now be written off anyway and if your BR is over then there shouldn't be a problem.
Can you get hold of the letters to see what is said on there? This may help in the first instance.
It will not affect your family and their credit rating at all unless the debts were joint.
Get hold of the letters and then come back on here and let us know what is said.
