Posted - 05 December 2011 : 13:25:51 I was declared bankrupt last year and also now have a bru. I was in a car accident last year and have been awared money for personal injuries. Can this money be taken off me?

Posted - 10 December 2011 : 20:00:30 It depends - if the money was awarded just for the injuries you sustained, then this money should not be taken from you. However, if an element of the award was for loss of income than this element of the award does vest in the bankruptcy - if awarded within the appropriate time scale.
As such the Official Receiver or trustee could attempt to realise this for the benefit of your creditors.
