Posted - 03 January 2012 : 07:42:34 If you file for bankruptcy - the bankruptcy will affect / deal with only you - the debts in your sole name and any debts which are held in joint names.
(In the case of any joint held debt the 'other' party is liable also for the debt as your bankruptcy order does not negate any 'joint liability')
If your partner does not hold any joint debt with you, she will not be affected in any way by the bankruptcy nor importnatly your sole debts
Your bankruptcy will be held on your credit file for 7 years, this will affect your ability to apply for further credit such as a mortgage
