Have a people carrier annd a box trailer with all my car valeting stuff in as just started doing my own car valeting as permitted work towards my esa. Will I keep this as won't be able to work if not. My car is worth about £2500. My mum and dad own the box trailer and contents. |

Agree with the above as well. I think that when we were talking about values we all should have been talking about equity in vehicles, as some vehicle of course have finance on them.

I would also like to add is that the OR will take each case on its merit!
I would have presumed that in order to work you need a realiable vehicle, therefore i do not see much difficulty in you keeping the present one. Provided the case is justified, the OR can be pretty realistic when it comes to a car, particularly if the car is the sole vehicle in the household OR needed for work.
There are always the odd horror story of the OR taking a car at a low value but we are not aware of the whole picture on the forum, there may be a good reason..... I am also aware of indivuals retaining vehicles up to £8k in value!
It is all down to the value v need of the vehicle, please try not to worry too much

You normally work off the trade-in figure - what you would get from a garage for the vehicle, NOT private sale. This normally brings the value down to a more realistic one

The one proviso I would add here is that I am now being advised by some clients that the Official receiver is actually telling them that they are considering realising cars with a value of only £1,000. It may be that the vehicle of £2,500 will attract the attention of the OR. He may ask you to deliver it up to him so he can sell it and in return, give you about £1,000 to buy an alternative vehicle.

Your Car Valeting equipment would be classed as 'tools of your trade' and as such you would be able to keep them.
