Posted - 04 April 2012 : 14:32:47 Actually Adam, on your debt level it would probably be a Debt Relief ORder not Bankruptcy - no difference to you other than the fact you will not have to atted the Official Receiver or Court - it will be done for you, possibly by SSAFRA or failing that the Citizens Advice Bureau - fees much lower at £0 but SSAFRA can help you with that. If you want to chat things through please get in touch with either of the experts via experts tab on left hand side - scroll down and you will find contact details, Melanie

Posted - 04 April 2012 : 14:28:03 Hi Adam - forgive my spelling here, but if you contact SSAFRA (apologies probably got the spelling wrong)as you are ex- armed forces personnel they will provide you with funds to petition for bankruptcy, and help you take the worry out of dealing with your debt - don't be afraid to contact them, they are really good I have passed a number of clients their way, who have all spoken very highly of them
Hope this helps and good luck, if you need any further advice please do not hesitate to get in touch, Melanie

Posted - 02 April 2012 : 10:54:07 Hi Adam.
There are two elements to the cost of self-declared bankruptcy.
1) The Official Receivers Deposit - this is unavoidable and is currently £525. It goes towards funding the Official Receiver's enquiries.
2) The Court Fee - this is currently £175 but people on certain benefits or a low income may not have to pay this, as suggested above. You need to fill out court form EX160.
Your only alternative to paying the OR deposit yourself is to get someone else to pay it. Sometimes charities, trade associations and benevolent funds can help, for instance The Royal British Legion can help with ex-armed forces.
If you cannot afford the fee at all you can look at other options which won't do you any harm and you may find a better option.

Posted - 02 April 2012 : 08:37:27 Hi,
I'm afraid you will have to pay if you declare yourself bankrupt. If you're on certain benefits you can get a reduction and there are some companies that can help you - nip down to your local CAB for advice.
The only other way is if one of your creditors does it for you.
