Posted - 23 April 2012 : 15:00:42 I'm about to file for bankruptcy. I have massive debts from a previously failed business and now live on benefits at the age of 62.I already have a basic Barclays Bank account into which my Pension Credit Guarantee and Housing Benefit are paid. Will the OR close that account even though it is already basic and how will I receive my PCG and HB so as not to fall behind in rent and other payments? If I may also ask, given that I am on benefits and have few employment prospects at my age and certainly could never earn more than I receive in entitlements and benefits now, is a shorter bankruptcy period until discharge likely? Thanks very much

Your basic Barclays account should be fine. You can always check with Barclays as it's the bank that freezes accounts, but Barclays are bankruptcy friendly.
You are bankrupt for 12 months, it doesn't really make any difference what your circumstances are, you may or may not get discharged early.
