I was declared BR last week. Had interview with OR on Friday.. I've tried to check my Barclays bank acc online and there is a message saying contact your branch. It won't let me access my account? Has it been frozen ??

Thought I'd let you know how I got on..
I went to my Barclays bank branch and was told my bank acc is active.. Phew!! That was a relief..
Regards to not being able to use online banking...that facility has been withdrawn so that would explain my online banking problem..
They said its a precaution they take because I might try to arrange an overdraft or any other activity..
I assured them I wouldn't be that stupid but I can understand why they have done this..
I will just have to check my bank balance elsewhere.. It's a small inconvenience but that's the outcome.
Thank you all for putting my mind at ease x

The account is unlikely to be frozen, but barclays usually do not allow online banking for bankrupts so they have probably just withdrawn the online access, which is probably what they will tell you when you go see them

Hi thank you for answering my post..
My active bank is a Barclays cash card account. This has a couple of pounds in it and my benefits are due to be paid into it on Thursday.
I don't owe this bank any money.. I was advised to open this account by CCCS debt helpline before I went BR..
My HSBC bank account and credit cards were included in my BR last wk.
I telephoned Barclays online banking today because I tried to access my account and kept getting a code m1172 and to go and see someone at my local branch.
I will go tomorrow as I'm getting worried about being able to pay my rent and other bills on Friday..
I think that maybe its been temporarily frozen while the OR is looking into it..
When I had my interview with him last Friday he said he didn't see any reason why it should be frozen..
So I will hopefully find out why tomorrow..
Fingers crossed .. Sorry for waffling on but these worrys are stressful..

Hi Lin44,

Did you have any debt with Barclays? Is there any money in the account? Is it a basic account?

Your bank will automatically freeze your bank account once you are bankrupt, unless it's a bankruptcy friendly account and you have discussed it with the bank first.

As Jan has said, contact the bank and if necessary, the OR can speak to the bank to unfreeze it. You may also have to open a basic account if the bank will not let you have it.

Hi and welcome.

It may well have been - best thing to do is to speak to them and/or the OR to find out what has happened.
