Hi,
For the past few years I've stuck out an extremely stressful job that literally drove me insane. Major depression diagnosis, a long string of mad events in and out of work etc. Recently I decided enough is enough and that I have to do something else despite the great money I used to make.
Problem is that getting an alternative job has proven much more difficult than anticipated, and I'm now completely cleaned out and in debt to the tune of around £40k, including to the inland revenue.
I can't afford rent, so live with a friend. This however means that I can't consider a low paying job or sign on, because this would betray my location to the HMRC and bank, who would send bailiffs, immediately losing me a friend and rendering me homeless.
I also can't declare bankruptcy due to the large amount of money required.
It would be great if anybody has experiences or advice that can help me. I feel like I'm being forcibly removed from society, and potentially this world. |

I have no family I can ask for help with this. My friend is aware of my situation and is naturally keen to see it resolved quickly, as am I. |

Another thought - does your friend know of your current situation? If not, how are you going to explain things when your money runs out?
Do you have any family that can help you out?

The baillifs cannot just take goods that are not yours. You don't even have to allow them over the doorstep.
You need to get something sorted very quickly as you cannot exist on thin air.

Thanks for this. I currently have just over £100 and once that's exhausted I'm out of luck.
About the bailiffs, I've heard several accounts of bailiffs removing all valuable items from houses then asking the rightful owners to prove the items are theirs to have them returned. I can't do this to my host.
I've also tried the CAB without luck. They just urge me to sign on regardless of the consequences.
Thanks for the help recommendation - I'll get right on it!

Hi and welcome.
So sorry to hear of your problems and I hope your health improves soon.
I hope you find a job soon. However, I will say that if baillifs did turn up then they could not remove anything belonging to your friend. How are you managing to afford food and clothing?
You need to seek some expert advice. You can contact any of the experts on here (contact details on the left hand side of the page) for some free advice. Alternatively you can go to CAB to ask them for assistance in sorting your problems out.
