Hi,

Looking for some advice. I have debts totalling around £35,000 which I have been struggling to pay under a debt management for the last 6 years. I did apply for an IVA a few yesrs ago but it was turned down by my main creditor Northern Rock, since then the situation has got worse. I lost my job 2 years ago so cannot consider another attempt at IVA. Curently I pay £40 per month into my debt management with PayPlan, but even this is becomming a struggle to find.
My partner works part time (3/4 days a week) and we have the usual tax credits - we pay no rent, or council tax. All my debts were incurred before I met my present partner, so how will me petitioning for bankruptcy effect her? Will her earnings etc be taken into account?
I have a car that cost £400 but it is required as the public transport where we live isn't very good and I am searching further afield for work. I did have a short stint of being self-employed (8 months) but don't really have any accounts to show for that period, all my transactions were done via internet banking. My partner has her own debts which she manages very well.
I suppose what I'm asking is there any free help out there in filling out the relevant forms correctly, last thing I want is to fill them in and find I've got something wrong.
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Fugazi,
Have you your basic accounts for filing your tax return during your self employment period?
You say you did most of it online, so you should be able to create accounts from these records. You can create them yourself from a basic spreadsheet if you are a bit PC savvy.

If you need any help with that let me know, and I'll see if I can dig out a basic blank sheet.

TY Viki,

I have downloaded the forms and there are a few items I am unsure about, such as the details of my self-employment period. I don't have a full set of accounts for the time period, as I did very little business during this time. If I cannot present accounts how will it effect the petition?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It sounds like bankruptcy could be the best option for you, but please make sure you speak to an expert for advice. You could contact an expert on here or visit the CAB.

Have you downloaded the forms yet? Have a look at them as you may not need help completing them.

Your partner's contribution to the household bills would be taken into account, but only if you are being assessed for an income payment agreement, and as you are out of work, that won't happen until you start a job.

It sounds like you really need your car for seeking work and for work when you get it, so your car should be ok, but again, please seek expert advice.
