This is also about business accounts Richard - I think OP probably already has a 'normal' account.

What type of facilities can you do with out.

I had a similar problem with finding a personal account around 7 years ago. The company that arranged my bankruptcy **link removed** pointed me in the direction of a range of accounts that have no overdraft facility and only a cash card (No visa) After taking what they said on bored I researched the different banks that offered such a account. In the end a building society was the only place I could find to put my money.

**Please don't post links on the forum. Thanks!**

I'm aware that there are other banks apart from the Co-op, I'm just making the point that they, along with some other banks, won't allow business transactions through personal accounts.

Can you tell us which banks you've found helpful as this may also help future posters?

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side.

There are lots of other bank accounts that can be used other than the co-op.
I've found some banks more helpful than others.

It would be good if the OP could post again, and clarify their reasons.

It might be helpful for others as well in the future.

Niobe is right, some bank accounts won't allow business transactions and the Co-op is definitely one of them.

I read through posts here for months before my first post, so understand.
The more information we can ascertain, the more informative peoples responses can be.

I agree but a lot of the time we find that some posters only make the one post and never come back on again.

Not saying this will be the case here but it's always good to put down information in case anyone else is looking in with the same problem but doesn't want to post.

Which is why it would be good to hear from Topsy to clarify why they need a 'business' account.

I know they can take payments but I also know that some of our posters on the sister site cannot take card payments through a normal account.

There are also some banks that won't let you use a normal account for business purposes - I believe the Co-op is one of them.

Nearly all accounts can take payments, we need to hear from Topsy if theres a specific need for the business account, ie needing to take a card payment.

If you do need an account that takes payments then you might find i a bit difficult.

Topsy b,
Do you need a business account to take card payments?

I personally found Barclays not too helpful in setting up a business account.

Hi topsy,

One of the posters on here managed to get a business account from Barclays, but you would need to go in and speak to someone.

If your own bank has turned you down, maybe try the Co-op too.

Good luck.

It may depend upon whether Topsy needs a business account in order to take card payments. I don't think a normal account will let you do that.

Hi topsy b,
is there any reason why you cant open an ordinary account and keep that seperate rather than a 'business' one.
As a sole trader, theres nothing keeping you from using your personal banking account, although it does take a bit more sifting through and a bit tighter control with a spreadsheet for your accounts etc.
