I was discharged from bankruptcy 2 years ago. I have recently checked my credit score with experian and it is 999. I applied for a card with Aqua and have been rejected. I am not sure wh can any one throw any light on this or recommend a company I might be sucessful with. I dont really need a credit card just want to establish a good pattern of repayments. |

Just thought I would give you an update on my application. I have been approved for a credit card with Vanquis with a £500 credit limit.
Thanks for all the advice. I thought I would never get credit again!

Thanks for the advice. I've e-mailed the credit reference website to close my subscription down until May 2013 when I hope to be discharged. |

Hi pcoventry,
As soon as you are discharged, then you can write to any creditors asking them to mark the debt as satisfied and amend the default date to your bankruptcy date (if they haven't done so already)
Then once everything is green and not red, then you can, if you wish, apply for a Vanquis Card to rebuild you credit, paying it off each month of course.
Nothing wrong with looking at your file now, but there is not a lot you can do until discharged from the debts.

Vanquis cards say they are available to people "not legally restricted to obtaining credit eg because of bankruptcy
So you wait till your done? A lot of guides say to try and start as early as possible, if it's under £500 does the OR need to be informed? ( I think £500 and above they do) |

Can I please ask?
Is it best to wait till you are discharged before you tackle credit file? Or can it be done any time after BR?
Or is there a set timeframe to wait? |

Hi redrose,
I think your best chance is with a Vanquis credit card,they seem more sympathetic to discharged bankrupts than most cards for poor credit. One to avoid is the Capital one classic card it gives the impression that as long as your discharged you stand a chance, I got knocked back for this one last year and again a few weeks ago due to a poor credit score. My credit files have been cleaned up (best they can be ! ) and have been discharged well over 2 years.

Hi redrose,
Have you ever had a Capital One credit card? If you have, you will be refused by Aqua.
If not, you need to check your credit report again and make sure all your creditors have marked your debts as satified. Once you have done that and it's all green and not red, then maybe you could try a Vanquis card.
