Hi,
i went bankrupt 4 and a half years ago after my then husband of 30 years left for someone else. I was discharged after a year but my home has been up for sale as my equity is to be taken to help repay some of the debt. The house sold yesterday so i need to find somewhere to live now and am worried that although i am in regular employment and have never defaulted on the mortgage that i will not pass a credit check and be homeless. A possible option would be for my adult daughter who currently lives with me and my fiance who currently does not,{ but hopes to be shortly} to apply under a joint application without me on it, or would the landlord or letting agency still check me out aswell? Could you please advise as to the best course of action as i obviously cannot afford to be paying out for credit checks to various letting agents when i won't even pass them.
Thankyou in advance.

Hi and welcome.

Do not take out any joint financial dealings with your fiance - your bad credit history could impact on his rating. I can't see a landlord doing a joint tenancy in only one name.

Your fiance could take out a rental on his own and you move in and pay him rent as a lodger.

The other thing is to ring round a few landords and ask whether they accept discharged bankrupts. Try a private letting as well.

The friend in my adversity I shall always cherish most. I can better trust those who helped to relieve the gloom of my dark hours than those who are so ready to enjoy with me the sunshine of my prosperity. – Ulysses S. Grant
