Posted - 30 August 2008 : 16:05:58 Hi, I was declared Bankrupt on 22nd September 2004. This is now almost 4 years ago. Can you please advice me how long I will have to wait to be able to apply for a Bank Account where I can have a debit card and a Chequebook. I have not been in debt since this date and I now have a full-time job. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

I agree with Paul. Most banks will review the conduct of your account after 6 months. Providing you have a regular salary paid in and have not bounced any payments, you should be able to ask to get your account upgraded to obtain a debit card and cheque book.

Posted - 30 August 2008 : 16:10:50 Hi there
provided that you are on the electoral register you should be able to qualify for either a CO OP Cashminder account ( visa electron debit card & internet banking etc ), or a basic barclays account.
if you are already with a bank it may be worth trying them first as they can look at your track record.
The banks tend to offer the more basic account forst and then you can ask them to review at 6 monthly intervals.
