We are filing jointly for BR next week and intend to leave the country within 1 month.
We asked wether or not we should buy ferry tickets as i need to take my tools abroad to work,and were advised to buy them. We have paid for rental accomadation but have two more things to consider, the first being our dogs they need pet passports and the other is fuel for the journey,we have got to get the dogs done or they cant return to the uk. so assume we should go ahead before BR but what about the fuel? is the OR likely to allow it? or should I somehow fill up as many cans as i can to get us as far as we can and start begging in the south of france? please help.
I know that what we are doing is no different to anyone else that relocates after BR but I cant help thinking that the OR will be against us in some way, I have no work here and the prospect is bleak being a self employed bankrupt, my wife although in employment will lose her job once her company find out we are sure. I have secured some work abroad and my wife has an interview does this sound ok?
I know the OR cant stop us leaving but he could certainly try to hinder us, and if we cant get to our destination we will be homeless please any advice would be very helpfull.
If the OR is not interested in the furniture can we sell it for the petrol money as we cant take it with us or does the money get taken too? as its tools, some clothes and the dogs only in the van? |

Hiya Jude
Thats great news on the date of your hearing.
On the side of the bit about missing somthing off, i would mention to the OR when you have your interview, they will be able to track it i expect anyhow.
I think others have missed things, i for one missed of something and gave them a call after the interview.
Just inform them and be honest, no good worrying about it, what is done is done.

Update - we have submitted our forms to the court, paid the money etc. Our court date is not until 30th September. I have since realised that I have missed something off the form. I am a sole trader and over the last couple of years I have tried a few different things more or less relating to what I do. All payments came through the one bank account (my name trading as...)but I called each 'business' something different. I think now that I should have put these down as previous trading names. What should I do now? Will it be OK to just tell the OR or do I need to change my forms or is this not possible? I can't believe I missed this, yet another thing to worry about.

if I were you I'd calculate approx cost of the fuel and sell a few household items.
The OR won't have much interest in them and we can't be talking fortunes.

Hi Jude - our friends have just moved to SW france and are loving it! They have asked us to fly out and visit them, so I have checked cheap flights with Ryan air and can get them for £4.99 return (plus taxes of course!) I am very tempted! Good luck! Great way to start your debt free life!

Hi Jude,
given the fact you are relocating through necessity, I'm sure the OR will cooperate. As you are going for work, this will increase the chances of the OR getting an IPA (although it's not guaranteed). Just remember, the OR can't do anything to stop you from working, so any reasonable expenses you may have should be fine.
