Hi, I tried to open a Co-Op Cashminder account today as went BR on 1 Sept. They said I should wait until all my assets had been frozen as that account could be frozen. Is this the normal way about it? Also I have an appointment to see the OR next month and want to know a bit more about what he will ask. I will take credit card and bank statements with me. Thanks

My current account (with Maestro) is still open one month on, and not a word from them about closing it.

When I asked on the phone, the day after BR, the lady said they would be willing to open me a Step Account. Again, no words on that either.

CoOp have been so good, I don't think I'd trade the Cashminder in. Especially as Visa Electron is accepted more places than Maestro worldwide (Mom & Pop are treating me to a trip to the States next year - 30th Birthday present).

Hi I just went through the motions on a Natwest step account and it straight away declined me, it said
"to contact them once we have been discharged with a copy of the discharge notice and they would be happy to go through with the application."

Oh well only looking as i have my account now with the Coop.

I just checked out the step account with Natwest and they said it wouldn't be available to me as it was classed as a current account.

They did say however that I could have a FIRST RESERVE account, which is actually classed as a savings account. They said it could have wages paid into it and D.D's coming out of it and came with a solo card. Whilst I was still on the phone to them, I checked the terms and conditions of the first reserve account and it said, no wages can be paid in and no D.D's can come out. I then pointed that out to the guy who I was talking to, he went away and checked and said they have allowed it on peoples accounts but don't advertise it. He said if I was concerned about it, to go to my local Natwest and they'll tell me everything I need to know.

But although its techinically a savings account it can be used like an instant access, cash card account. So there is one more option for us all.

Barclays will give open their basic bank account for undischarged bankrupts.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

NatWest offered me a Step account (with Solo debit card) after BR - if that helps.

Another one of those situations where the banks have changed their policies again. Lets see as the Coop were taking most people on and now its getting harder.

I hope Maz that you get an account sorted, and soon as the list for accounts for undischarged BR is becoming smaller and smaller and then the only way people will be able to get an account will be though Think Banking, but they charge a one off fee £25, additional card holder fee £5 to start then if there are 2 people on the account that will work out £17.50 per month.

Good luck Maz

Perhaps it has changed at Nationwide, however, I already had an account open before my BR order. Maybe you can keep an account you already have open but you cannot open one whilst an undischarged BR. It could be better to try opening hte account in the branch rather than over the internet. I tried opening a Barclays Basic Account but although they said the account is open to BR's they refused me!
