Posted - 10 September 2008 : 09:54:47 hi there,
if a parent was to gift a son a lump sum after discharge, but he is still in an IPA, is that accepted or is it classed as a bnous or similar, and therefore claimable by the OR?
thanks |

Posted - 10 September 2008 : 11:28:04 Hi a bonus, if you mean from your employer, is income and therefore should be reported to the OR.

Posted - 10 September 2008 : 11:23:37 So basically if I got a bonus after I was discharged but still under an IPA I could keep the money? I thought you had to give all bonuses etc. until your IPA had finished?

Posted - 10 September 2008 : 11:20:47 Hi a lump sum such as you describe could only be claimed by the OR prior to discharge.
An IPA is an Income Payment Agreement which continues after discharge and therefore only relates to income. Gifts, loans etc after discharge are therefore ok
