Dear Forum

Sorry to be bombarding the site with so many posts tonight - I have so much stuff going through my mind and just need to get it all off my chest - I hope this is ok?!

I have just had my Mum and Sister staying with me for the weekend and it has been so nice - we have had a good honest, open chat about my whole finanical / debt situation and it has been such a relief to get it all off my chest - they have been so supportive and understanding and non-judgemental it's untrue - it has really made me realise just how special family are, and has been a welcome change from sitting at home on my own worrying about debt!

My situation is that I have £40,000 unsecured debt, and am just entering into a DMP, but I am due to be going to Canada for a year in January 2009 for a year to be with my partner and hopefully get work out there - I have a Visa sorted out. I was initially going to go into the DMP and see how things go in Canada - the DMP provider told me that I would be able to carry on paying into it from Canada - but now I feel that BR now is the best option for me.

Sorry to waffle on - my main question is:

Would there be any problem with my family paying for flights / insurance etc. for me for the trip to Canada? My sister has very kindly offered to pay for these things as they really want me to go - they feel it is right for me to give it a go.

I am very worried about this whole situation. Obviously the OR will not see this trip as "essential" but I feel it's something I need to do - be reunited with my partner again (we have been seperated for 5 months now) and get a fresh start, debt free.

Would I get into trouble with the OR for this?

Hi D&C,

If your family are covering these costs, then the OR won't (and indeed can't) have an issue with this.

Hi bankruptc!

Thanks for your reply and sorry for my delay in getting back to you!

Well if this is the case, that would be a great relief. I did originally have a flight booked with Zoom Airlines but they went bust (the irony). My sister got me another one today with BA - they should be big enough to not go bump in the night.

I hope that the OR will be slightly sympathetic and understand my desire / need to go to Canada. I feel that if I do actually make it out there and be back with my girlfriend and get a job etc. it could be the break I have needed.

I also feel that this whole experience will be a good lesson to me and I will come from it stronger and learn to live within my means.

Thanks again!

Hi again dandc (Just replied on another thread!),

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think there will be a problem with this. I know others are going away on holidays paid for by family etc. I think it should be fine, but someone will put me right if I've got it wrong!

PS. Of course it's ok to keep askign questions-it's what the forum's here for!! :-)
