Posted - 01 October 2008 : 10:21:37 i owe the tax man about £8k have unsecured debt of about £12k that i am finding hard to pay. i have maybe 20 credit cards. My question is if i max out these cards then declare myself bankrupt would this be looked on as fraud.My take on it is I have the cards and can use them for and when ever I want but I would like your advice. Thank you. Jim

In my experience, most people exhaust all available credit before going BR. As suzanne says, if you max out your cards and go BR staright away, then it is likely you'll get a BRO/BRU.

It may not be treated as fraud but it would certainly earn you a BRU/BRO for obtaining credit with no reasonable prospect of repayment, and with knowledge of insolvency.
You should also ask yourself if your conscience would allow you to do this if you even suspect it may be fraudulent.
