Posted - 05 October 2008 : 16:18:57 My husband and I were made bankrupt in July, we had council tax arrears from last year and the current year, our normal monthly payment would be £96 per month, after going bankrupt our council tax bill increased to £150 per month, it appears that they have not included last years arrears, but have included the monthly payments we missed this year - is this normal or should the arrears from this year also be excluded from our monthly payment?
Thank you

Posted - 07 October 2008 : 10:33:33 Hi there Any arrears should be claimed as part of the BR. If you have been issued with a Final Notice then a summons for this financial year then the full years tax should be also included in your BR. If not then the arrears should be apportioned up to the date of BR (inthis case July) have you been issued with a Final Notice or Summons???

My understanding is this, last years council tax should have been written off in bankruptcy. I think the arrears for this year should also have been written off but I hope Zoe gets to see this thread as her input would be just what you need.
