Hi
Really panicking now.
How much debt constitutes fraud? Me and hubby have mega individual debts and worried we will get a bru/bro or prosecuted.

Lloyds might not freeze your accounts - they were happy for me to keep mine. The only reason I didn't was because I sent my debit card to the OR (I should have asked to keep it!) and Lloyds would only give me an account with a cash card that could only be used at their machines.

Hi TD

Yeah LLoyds have not frozen ours either.

Thats a shame about your expert status but at least you can come on when you have time.

Glad that things are starting to get to normal for you within reason, and that work is going ok.

Hubby moved out yet as i remember you said he will be soon.

Anyhow keep posting as we need you too :-)

LOL

Hello My Lovely Mother Hen!

Yes course all finished, have been Stateside and very busy with little girls.
Dont think I'll be able to be an 'expert' afterall as now I'm back working I just dont seem to be able to offer the time.
You are doing a brilliant job by the way!

Still nothing from the OR office. They offered us the BI, but that was over a month ago and so far heard nothing! No mention of interview or IPA either. Also Llyods still have not frozen our account!?!?!

Anyway, sorry to hijack thread!

Hi Sandie

I have just looked through these old posts and cant see to whom the phrase came from. I think its just a general thing the OR will frown upon those who have gambled money, or sold a property and had money that could help towards debts they have when it comes to how we got our debts it can be all different circumstances and thats why the OR looks into them and asks about them. Your not on trial at anytime and BR should never be seen as an easy way out as its not but i think the majority of us got into our mess from like you living beyond our means and robbing peter to pay paul as you say.
The OR will ask how you got to this stage and as you have pointed out towards the end its to live.

Oh and thanks for the words of kindness i try and do my bit :-)

LOL

Hi Sandie,
I would say that 99.9% of people who go BR with personal debt, accrued it by living expenses, living beyond means and by robbing Peter to pay Paul. The OR sees it every single day, so please dont worry.
However, if you've just got back from a luxury cruise, whilst claiming JSA, then that may not go down to well!

Can I just ask a question? when you say 'does it matter how I got my debts', what do you mean, I mean, most of my debts are due to living expenses as well as living beyond my means in the past not to mention robbing peter to pay paul, does that constitute a BRO and did you mean, reckless spending, sorry, I am being a bit ignorant!!
By the way you are doing a great job Joe. This forum is a godsend.

Hi
Skippy and Needafriend are absolutely right.
It's quite possible to declare bankruptcy owing millions without getting a BRU/O.
Likewise a BRU/O could be applied with any level of debt, less than £10K for instance.

Hi Tracy

I agree with skippy its not what you have but how you got it.

I would not worry though thats why we are all here cos of our debts.

Try to relax and chill as i have said. It will be all ok honestly.

But i know how your feeling right now.

LOL

I don't think it's how much debt you have that constitutes fraud, more how you actually got the credit.

To be honest, a BRU/O is nothing to worry about - you would still be discharged from BR after 12 months, but you would still be under the restrictions of BR for the duration (up to 15 years). You wouldn't be able to work in certain professions, obtain credit for more than £500 without informing the lender etc.

I know it's easy for me to say, but try not to worry too much - I'm sure it won't be anywhere near as bad as you think x
