Posted - 06 October 2008 : 17:01:04 Hi Jo,
Was reading your blog and saw you had written about the cashplus pre-paid gold mastercard, thought it was a brilliant idea, as i want to start getting my credit rating up again, I am due to be discharged next month - so want to do everything I can to help improve my credit.
Have you actually got this card then? And did you just send your details/documents to that address which is just one line - Freepost Cashplus? I am worried about just sending copies of my passport etc to just this address...have you done it and was it fine?
I have signed up for the card and just need to send off my documents and pay for the account as well....
Thanks |

Posted - 12 October 2008 : 16:31:23 Hi Zamfir
It is embossed exactly like a normal credit card.
Its not flat and has the same 3 digits on the back to use when on line etc.
I have used mine a few times now and had no problems.

Posted - 12 October 2008 : 16:26:27 Hi Jo,
Sorry to hijack this thread, but is the cashplus card number embossed (like a Credit Card) or flat (like an Electron)?
Cheers, Terry x |

Posted - 09 October 2008 : 19:58:05 Hi Andy
Thanks for adding in your info although i have not put the card info on my blog to encourage more debt purely just info for those who are interested. I can see that if those of us who have not learnt a valuble lesson want to go for the real credit cards again wish to try the creditbuilder part to help with there credit score then thats good but its also is good for those of us who want a mortgage one day to be able to rebuild their file. Thanks

Posted - 09 October 2008 : 19:52:33 I have this product the creditbuilder one, It costs around £75 to do. You pay about 3 or 4 payments of £4.95 it updates experian after 3mths eventually after a year the payments end, debt settled and you have an improved credit score. As long as you have a bank account, catalogue & mobile phone(sim only contract)running as well you will have a decent score. Enough to get Capital One, Vanquis & Aqua credit cards. The biggest thing in credit is time, as long as you have one credit card which is open for a few years(longer the better) you will always get auto approved, if you stick to 3 credit searches a year. |

Posted - 08 October 2008 : 10:17:46 OK, so you always pay £4.95 a month, but for the first 12 months they treat it like a "loan" and that you are paying it off over the course of a year. And then after that you just pay £4.95 for having the account?
I am being discharged on the 2nd Nov....so i will send off my documents at the end of Oct, beginning of Nov...and get it once i am discharged.
I want to build up my credit rating any way i can !!! |

Posted - 08 October 2008 : 09:57:50 Hi 369
From what i read and understand it works like this.
This really should only be done on discharge if your wishing to help your credit rating and not before as i will do next year, but you will always pay the 4.95 per month anyhow, if you chose the credit helping service then you only pay the 4.95 each month and that would be the only charge that you would pay. You then would after the 12 months still pay the 4.95 as thats there usage fee, but fof the time your doing the help your credit file one it is only the 4.95 for that but really your paying there monthly usage fee. Does that make sense. LOL

Posted - 08 October 2008 : 09:47:34 Hi JO,
Can you just do a standing order from your main bank account into there?
Also, how exactly does the payment work....so they "lend" you £54 (ish) and then you pay back £4.95 over 12 months - this is the bit that helps your credit rating...then after the 12 months - do you still have to pay the £4.95?
Hope that makes sense! |

Posted - 08 October 2008 : 09:40:53 Hi 369
I have found mine very useful and glad that i got it.
It is nice to have 2 cards in my purse now and i use it for my shopping money now and also for things like clothing and car stuff as its easy to top up and you can keep an eye on it on line.
Let me know when you get it and when you do the pin you have to call the number on the letter that the card comes on and get it over the phone, then you can change it as you do with others.
Best of luck to you.

Posted - 08 October 2008 : 09:33:31 Thanks Jo for your reply.
I should have done it all on line then - but I didn't have my passport to hand. Oh well, I will send off my docs in the post - I just wanted to make sure that it was legit! And if you have yours then that's all good.
Just for anyone else who is interested in getting one of these cards...it is £4.95 each month....and also you have to pay £9.95 for your card and a further £9.95 if you want an additional card - but these are just one off payments.
Am looking forward to getting it, as I am hopefully going abroad next year and so i will have a card that i can use! |

Posted - 06 October 2008 : 18:11:23 Hi Jenny
Like i have said i dont want anyone to think that i am encouraging any more debt again as i am not.
It is a good idea and if after your discharged you want to try and repair your credit rating this account will help you do that.
Since i have had mine i have found it very useful, i have the Gold Pre Paid Card and it may cost £4.95 per month for the privilage but what I put on its mine not on tick and so i cant spend what i dont have or rack up any bad debts again. :-)
LOL

Posted - 06 October 2008 : 18:04:42 Hi Jo
These cards sound like a really good idea to try and repair your credit rating. I would certainly look to getting one in the future. I can honestly say that i will never have any type of credit facility again, however seen as this is your money you put on the card i will look into it.
You really are a godsend jo
Jenny
