Posted - 09 October 2008 : 21:01:14 Dear Forum
Hope you are all well?
Just wanted to share with you and get your thoughts on the following matter, which has really bemused me...
I have approx. £40,000 unsecured debt - £7,000 of which is with HSBC (Overdraft and Credit Card) - I started struggling to pay all my Creditors around May time this year and started to get help / advice on what to do - BR / IVA / DMP.
I stopped paying my Creditors full amounts in June and paid them £1 each for 3 months and have just started a DMP. I think I am going to have to go BR soon though.
I cut up all my Credit / Debit Cards about 3 months ago and opened 2 new Basic Bank Accounts. Today, I received a new Solo Debit Card from the HSBC, a new Bank Account Welcome Pack and a Loan Agreement for me to sign???!!!!
WHAT is going on??? I don't want a Loan. I don't want a new Bank Account and I certainly don't want to be with HSBC anymore!!! Do these people not get the hint???
What should I do???!!!
I'm confused... |

good luck. BR may be the right option but, of couse, there are lots of issues you need to get clear first.
you may find that a coop cashminder account (card with visa electron - better than hsbc basic, anyway) or a nationwide basic account are BR-friendly. I had mine prior to Br and - now undischarged - I still have them.
Yes, no wonder there are so many debt problems when people who are not interested in taking out loans are beeing pestered to take one out.
i am not joking. One time a few years ago my wife went into a bank to draw out £20 and came out with a £200 limit credit card and a £5000 loan! She was actually talked into it by the staff! It was the start of all her debt problems... |

Posted - 09 October 2008 : 22:18:12 Hi C!
Yes if you could arrange that with Admin. then that would be good!
I forgot to say, I bought the MEN last week out of interest to look out for the BR adverts - they were near the back - near the Classified section - and it listed all the regional Courts from Greater Manchester e.g. Oldham, Bury, Trafford etc. I think it was on a Thu. I don't think they're in every day though. Don't know for sure though - don't really buy it any other time.
So, I think that must be the way they do it...
Sorry - bit of trivial information... |

Posted - 09 October 2008 : 22:05:25 Yep!! I was asking Halifax to put my CC into a loan, so that I at least had some prospect of paying it off at some point in my life, but nope, they wanted to go on claiming a huge amount of interest every month, then send me letters, just when I was starting to struggle, saying, 'Congratulations! We've increased your credit rating!' Grrrrrrrrr...you've got me on my soap box now! I'd better get off... ;-)

PS. If you agree I'll ask admin to exchange our email addresses, that's how they do it. |

Posted - 09 October 2008 : 21:56:42 Hi C!
Thanks for looking out for me!
How does one go about an email exchange then like?
Is it not a bit risky to write it down on the forum?
Yep, there's no way I'm signing up to that - I am trying to get out of debt not jump back into it!
And yes, it is very annoying indeed - I tried to explain to HSBC that the charges and fees which they kept putting on my account were one of the contirbuting factors which kept knocking my account over it's limit thus causing more fees and charges - vicious circle - catch 22 - but they did not see it like that...
Very annoying indeed!
Rich.

Posted - 09 October 2008 : 21:38:14 Good to hear from you too! I keep watching out for you. We should swap email addresses like I suggested the other day. :-)
I think you're absolutely right not to sign up to whatever it is. It sounds like the last thing you need right now.
It is annoying isn't it?! I spoke to halifax (one of my biggest creditors) YEARS ago, asking what they could do to help me out. The answer?? NOTHING!! And look at them now, ending up with hardly anything back! Frustrating!
