Posted - 13 October 2008 : 22:09:03 Hi All
Thanks for your help on answering some previous questions, i just wonder if you could help me with a couple more:
1. When i speak to the OR, how will he view household bills and what will happen to these (e.g. electric, gas etc.) My ex-partner has her name on some of these bills even though they mainly come out of my account. She earns a lot less than me every month but will she be held 50% accountable?
2. A few weeks ago I canceled my mortgage payments, credit card payments and a loan payment which i took out for my car but i have not cancelled any of the utility bills or SKY etc. will this be viewed as giving preferential treatment to creditors?
Any help you could give would be great.

Seeing as the other party being your ex is also on the bills then she would end up with the whole debt to pay.
I know thats not what you wanted to hear but thats how it works. :-(
Sorry that i cant be the bringer of good news.
It's the old issue of joint and several liability, im affraid. Soz
Take Care

Posted - 15 October 2008 : 13:38:47 Hi Right i have looked into this and wit regards to the utility bills it goes a little like this:
If one party were to go BR, then the other party is liable for 100% of the debt.
Sorry but thats how it works im affraid.

If i owe some money on the utilities bills and my partners name is on them as well, will she be accountable for half or will it all be written off under my name?

Paying your utility bills is essential living and wont be frowned upon by the OR and its not classed as preferential treatment either.
