Posted - 15 October 2008 : 11:44:39 I need some help and advice. I am stuck on how to make the right choice. I have no assets as living with parents, debits approx £42K and my surplus income will probably be about £340. Do I go for BR or IVA? |

Posted - 15 October 2008 : 16:38:46 A NT code is a Nil Tax code. This means that once it's applied you won't pay any tax for the remainder of the tax year. Unfortunately you're not allowed to keep it as it has to be paid over to the OR.
Whether or not you get an NT code depends on whether HMRC have time to apply it, so the nearer you are to the end of the tax year the less chance there is of you getting one.
Sorry to jump in Jo!

Posted - 15 October 2008 : 14:52:33 Hi Confused
I would go to the meeting with your manager and ask that it remains a private thing between you and him/her.
It is not something that should be just passed about an office and if word gets out and its not via the paper or the insolvency site that these people have got there knowledge then you could have a case for brech on confidentiality.
I think really though that you should be honest with at least one person as these things can leak out but also dependent on the size of the company or your place of work then when the NT code is applied to your wages the department that deals with your wages may click on and then others may speak out without realisng.
I would bite the bullet and say only what you feel they should know, you dont have to tell all, you dont even have to say its you, it may be just a case of you generally speaking about it.
If you dont mind me asking what job do you do?

Posted - 15 October 2008 : 14:23:56 I now feel sick. I emailed our central HR team to check if BR or IVA would affect my employment, and have now been asked to meet with the manager. I don’t want people in my team to know about this |
