Hi myself and my Husband have an appointment to go Bankrupt on friday, however we have just looked our forms and it says that we have to pay £345 each? We can't afford this? My husband works, 30 hours, and we are in reciept of housing benifit, council tax benefit, child tax credit and working tax credits. Can you advice me please? After reading this we are now very panicked, we owe over £7,000 and see Bankruptcy as ourlast option. Please help

Hi Alisun123,

If you 'only' owe 7K i would be a bit concerned about going BR. Have you sort any advice from here or CCCS or national debtline all of which have free phone numbers and give free advice. Prehaps a DMP may well suit you better, obviously we dont know all your circumstances so we can only comment on what you have told us in your post.
please seek help through the above mentioned sites.

take care

Hi Alisun123 and welcome

You have your date for this friday and from what you are saying you dont have the fees in place to go BR.

You will need the fees to be able to declare yourself BR and unless you get a reduction in the fee from the certain benefits that allow this then the fee will be £495 x 2.

On my blog is a couple of links that may help you find places to get help with the fee but that will take longer than Friday to put inplace, it also tells you about what reduction in the fee you may get if any and how to go about it, that would be done at your court but you would need to speak to them and ask about it as some can do it the same day others ask for a couple of weeks notice before they can work out if you can get the court fee removed.
Your appt for the BR is that just an initial meeting or the actual court date?
Also you owe is it just the £7k as there may be other options rather than just going BR, have you thought about an IVA or DMP.
It would also be beneficial to give us a call as like i said there may be another way round it rather than going BR.
That number is 0800 078 9367.
Best of luck

Take Care
