Posted - 21 October 2008 : 09:18:49 I was declared bankrupt 2/9/08 and have tried to open a simple bank account with the co-op and been refused, then opened a similar account with the Halifax. they've just found out about the situation ,closed the account without informing me and sent the funds to the official receiver who knows the situation and doesn't want the money. Whats the best bank to try to open an account with, just to have a pension paid into ? |

Posted - 22 October 2008 : 11:11:23 Did you ask the Co-op why they refused? As far as I know the only reason they won't open an account is if you aren't on the electoral register.
One other question - did you apply for the Cashminder account rather than a current account? This can only be opened on the phone or in a branch, not on the internet.
Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Posted - 22 October 2008 : 09:19:37 Hi you could try think banking, they do charge but it would help you get an account up and running. They dont do credit checks and agree on the phone. They also once open give you account details over the phone so you can have your money paid in from your benefits sooner, rather than wait for letters confirming your bank details.
Best of luck
