Posted - 22 October 2008 : 12:09:23 I went bankrupt on 20th October and I have a contract phone with Orange that I use for business as well as personal use. I had no debt with orange and hope that I can still keep my contract. If not then I can change to Pay as you go and keep my same number. If I lose my number It will be very difficult for potential clients to contact me. I have my number advertised everywhere, business cards, yellow pages, website. I have always paid my telephone bill on time. As anyone had any experience with Orange and going bankrupt, without any having any debt with them when bankrupt.

And i also agree that maybe an assisted co would have been a good option - and would certainly advise anyone to contact the helpline or reviva also.
The weights are coming off my shoulders very slowly, but making such a big diference !! |

Posted - 22 October 2008 : 17:22:33 Hi i want to add again that i really wish that i had paid for an expert in this field to guide me through my BR.
There were so many things that even though i am not stupid that i could have done with someone there with me through the process and to help sort out the interview etc.
The cost would have been found if i had known more really and while i know you can do a BR yourself, there is no substitute for proper guidance, this site is invaluble but it cant give you all the answers and believe me there are many that we all want to ask but feel so scared to do so.
For those of you reading this i would give the guys and gals at either bankruptcyhelp or reviva a call and get the proper advice, its free and to be honest you will be glad you did. :-)

Posted - 22 October 2008 : 17:10:38 I have to say that one of the reasons that people choose to use a Assisted Bankruptcy Company is not simply the forms or some push back with aggressive creditors but also the representation at Court and with the OR's face to face meetings and most importantly the coaching and reassurance ( usually 24/7) prior to important calls.
It is also often difficult to make a complaint against the examiner as people are people and there could be fallout. However I know that Brett, Reviva UK and probably Julian have had good results in pushing back againt over eager examiners who on reflection are having a bad day ( which I guess they are entitled to like all of us ).

Posted - 22 October 2008 : 16:51:45 I thought exactly the same Paul, however i had not even finished the call and they told me my phone was now blocked - plus i had always been up to date with payments etc...
But then again when i had call from or i got a complete bitch who told me she would be contacting orange to let them know, so i may as well tell them first, she really put me through hell and seemed to be judging me and forcing answers out of me that i did not have

still unsure why one needs to advise suppliers of the Br when you are keeping to the conditions of Br.
No credit of £500 or more without first informing them of the Br. I view this as being the monthly amount not the annual contract, because you get billed monthly.

My experience with orange has been different - as soon as i told them they were very quick to cut me off, and would not let me keep my number. However you are needing the phone to keep earning so as others have said this is a different scenario to mine.
Would be great to hear your outcome though

Just to say that both hubby and I went BR at the beginning of September and before we did we took out new contracts with orange-we wanted to change to a cheap tariff before BR. Anyway, as yet our contract is still up and running and we've heard nothing from them to say they know we are BR. Fingers crossed it stays that way! Hope it's the same for you too!

I had a similar issue with T-mobile. I advised the OR that I needed the phone for business and had no issue keeping the contract going.
Remember, the OR can't do anything that effects your ability to earn, so you'll be fine!
