Posted - 22 October 2008 : 16:53:22 Hello,
I was just wondering, I am due to be discharged on the 2nd Nov, and I want to sort out my Credit Report.
When I was considering bankruptcy - my Financial Adviser, told me to write to my creditors and change my address to her office one (a PO BOX), i have never actually lived there, i just didnt want the post to always come to me. However, on my credit report it now states this PO BOX address on there, and Co-op have turned down an account based on "something" at this address.
Will i get in trouble for "lying" to my creditors about where i lived? To correct it can I write a notice of correction to the credit agency, so they can amend their records and see that i didnt actually live at that address - i jsut gave it to creditors so they wouldnt hassle me?
Thanks |

Posted - 23 October 2008 : 10:38:35 I don't think that a notice of correction will make any difference - and creditors won't be interested that your advisor suggested you take this action.
Worth a try but suggest that the best plan is as you have done - register on electoral role and give it a little while before you re apply.

Posted - 23 October 2008 : 10:26:02 Thanks Paul,
So, do you think it would be ok if I wrote a Notice of Correction for my Credit Report then and said that I changed my correspondance address as I was going bankrupt and didnt want to get all the letters coming to my home address.
Would new creditors see this as bad/lying and that i might do it to them as well?
I want to explain it, as this address my advisor gave me...is stopping me from getting an account as it is on my credit file.
I have now registered with the electoral role.
Thanks |

Posted - 23 October 2008 : 10:06:40 Hi
Your home address is dirrerent to your correspondance address - can't see anything particularly wrong with that.
The COOP usually only refuse the Cashminder account if they can't find you on the electoral register ( which they obviously can't on this occasion ) . Suggest you get yourself registered at your home so they can find you.
Interesting that if your advisor has all her clients use the address it probably has a dreadful record because who knows how many people you may be associated with in their eyes.
