I work in a police civilan role and have done since 2002.
I am currently in an IVA which hasnt been working very well for me .I am now considering BR - could you advise if I would have to tell my employer or not or should I just try to make my iva work....

Have you sought any professional advice re your situation. I would really recommend you call the helpline and speak to someone to go through your options with you. BR might be appropriate but as RHB said you are half way through your IVA now.

Seems a bit daft to quit an IVA now when you are more than halfway through it, especially as you've been bankrupt before??? |

Don't panic, hon. Basically when you go BR your tax code is changed to NT (nil tax) which means for the tax year in which you go BR, the money you would have paid to the inland revenue is paid to your creditors instead, via your OR. I would say it is an indicator to your employer that you could be BR, although there are other reasons people could be put on a NT tax code. Is there anything in your contract to say you are not permitted to continue your job if you are BR? This is the important thing to find out first.
These things are such a worry, and being a worrier myself I know all too well how stressful it all is, but you'll get there. Remember your health is MUCH more important than any money worries, so just get advice and do what you need to to ease the worries for you.

No you are not dim - I was BR sometime ago for 3 years and it was fine,however since getting remarried I became ill with depression and anxiety and you dont really think straight with that illness so we got into another financial meltdown and decided to take on a IVA which has been going now for 3 years (not very well) so i was considering BR again.
My wife said thats my head but I am a person who panics.it must be a surprise to you that I hold down a "reponsible" job but I am me - My trouble is that I have always tried to please people and look what mess it has got me into.I have learnt my lesson now but feel it may be too late |

Sorry Paul,
Just read back over some old posts and now I understand! It's likely your employer would find out when you are put on the NT tax code. Do you know for certain the implications of BR on your job? Maybe you could do what I did and phone HR anonymously for find out for sure.
Sorry again for the mix-up earlier-it's hard to keep up with everyone's situation =].

Maybe I'm having a blonde moment (I have them quite often!), but I've just read your post to Jayne and am confused. Are you already BR? You mention your OR meeting there etc but this post suggests you are only just considering BR. Sorry if I'm being dim! =]
