Posted - 01 December 2008 : 17:04:10 What is the figure for "reasonable" rent that the Offical Receiver will allow. I have moved in with a friend as my house was included in the bankruptcy. They are moving after Christmas to a larger property and have indicated that my rent will increase. |

Posted - 02 December 2008 : 16:42:47 I will be in a similar situation although I cant really class mine as rent...
I am leaving my mortgaged property to move in with my partner who owns a detached bungalow. His mortgage alone is £1200 a month and I will certainly be wanting to pay my way, so I will be looking to half the bills and pay around £500 towards the mort. All in including food it will add to around £950.
Does anybody know if this is acceptable in the view of the OR. I desperately dont want them to force my outgoings down and force a payment order on me...

Posted - 02 December 2008 : 15:17:42 I don't know if the OR can make you move to a cheaper area or to move out of family accommodation. If you are single and the annexe is for single occupancy you might be alright. It might, however, be necessary to prove the rent with a rent book/agreement and evidence of payments to your landlord, perhaps even a letter from your landlord to the OR. The OR would look at the area you are living in and whether it is a proper market rent for such accommodation in that area. I would investigate this thoroughly as it might be possible to go ahead with it. |

as £950 will in many areas secure a 4 bed detached for a family of 4 to 6 I would guess the OR is going to take the view that your rent is already too high even when most utilities etc are included. Particularly if you are a single occupant.

Posted - 01 December 2008 : 17:14:42 It is a large house and I will have my own bedroom and own bathroom. I am paying £650 at present but it will increase.
It could go as high as £950 as I will have my own annex. They will include most outgoings in this with the exception of my food and personal shopping.
