Posted - 06 December 2008 : 14:20:56 Hi All,
Shortly after being declared br, we will be moving to Ireland. We will obviously need a car to get there, but once we are there we will need 2 cars.
I will be looking for work in Ireland which will require travelling to interview, and the nature of my work means that I am often required to visit different client sites. Public transport in Co. Mayo (where we are likely to go) is almost non-existent and certainly not something that could be relied on.
So I will need a car.
My Wife has osteoarthritis of the hip which means that walking is quite often not an option, and as I've said, public transport is not an option unless living in a very big town/city. We have 3 children that will need ferrying to / from school.
So my Wife needs a car.
We have 2 cars that we would like to keep if possible. a 1998 Volvo V70 worth about £700-£800 at the most, and a Renault Laguna worth about £2000 (based on ebay bids on similar cars).
Is this a possibility or will the OR just laugh?

Posted - 07 December 2008 : 09:40:55 I agree Jez
I think that you have to look on it like that, our health both mentally and physically and of course are family are more important. :-)

I would have thought we can get a letter from the doctor as proof of osteoarthritis. Whether the OR agrees that it justifies the use of a car is a different matter, but all we can do is put our case across and see what happens.
Whatever the outcome, in terms of what assets we are allowed to keep, we will still be in a better place (mentally) than we are at the moment.

As long as you can justify the need, you shouldn't have a problem.
