My son has been offered a job involving a fair amount of driving, for the first year however, he would be required to use his own car and would be paid a mileage allowance.
He is about to go bankrupt in the new year, so would that mileage allowance be classed as income? He thinks it should not be, as it is not only to pay for petrol, but also the wear and tear and depreciation of his car, but I am not so sure.

Does your son's girlfriend own her car? Is she going BR or just your son?

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Thanks for the advice, I have another question now I am afraid.
Can the OR take his partners car when he goes BR? They live in a rural area and each need a car to be able to work and transport their daughter to baby sitters.

Hi

the mileage allowance could be taken into consideration depending how your son calculates his travel to work and other essential journeys expenditure.

If he lists an average monthly gross cost, then the allowance would be taken into consideration thus reducing that cost effectively.

If he lists only the non work related essential journeys cost then the maileage allowance should not be taken into consideration.

Either way he should explain how he has calculated this in section 13 - additional information.
