Posted - 09 December 2008 : 12:49:00 Hi All,
Does anyone know how much cash the OR will allow us to keep aside for living expenses when we go bankrupt?
Is that a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question?
There are a few issues that will have an impact on how much I will need to keep aside for living expenses:
1. I am a director of a limited company, which means that I cannot be unemployed in the eyes of the DWP and will therefore not get any benefits until the company has be wound up completely (which will take months).
2. We will be moving to Ireland immediately after going br. (Immediately is likely to be within a week.)
3. I will get benefits in Ireland, but it will take up to 2 months to sort out.
4. I will need to set aside money for removals, travel to Ireland, insuring the car in Ireland, living expenses for 2 months, deposit on a rented house, 2 months rent (at least), 3 lots of school uniforms, school books, various other up front costs that I will need to pay when we get to Ireland.
5. I will need 2 lots of br fees as well.
Maybe I would be better off moving to ireland and coming back to go bankrupt?

it would certainly seem to me that you need to get the move to Ireland all sorted out before declaring bankruptcy in the UK.
