Posted - 14 December 2008 : 20:24:51 I was made bankrupt in december 2006 and discharged in June 2007 when I check my credit file all the debt that where in the bankrupty are still active including a county court judgement. I did send a copy of my discharge certificate to all my creditors but only 1 has closed the account. Should the accounts be closed or will they remain like that untill the 6 years has passed. I must also add that the offical receiver did rather a bad job on my bankruptcy and I did end up doing most of the work myself. |

Posted - 17 December 2008 : 13:17:54 The bankruptcy will stay on the credit file for 6 years and this will be bad for obtaining credit for up to 6 years but it is worth making sure all the creditors update your file so that people could see you did not have outstanding balances. |

Thanks for your reply I was hoping that I wouldn't have to do that as it just means more expense for me. I don't have the copies of the letters I sent as this was 18 months ago, and it was just a basic letter anyway. If I just leave it would it disappear when the banruptcy comes to an end, it's not like anyone will give me any credit anyway and I don't need to apply for any.

Posted - 15 December 2008 : 17:40:39 I would write again to each creditor and send the letters recorded delivery. Try to make sure the right person gets the letter. This sounds obvious but in my case I am never too sure who actually controls each debt I have at any one time. They seem to get passed from pillar to post. I suppose its possible they might deliberately drag their feet out of annoyance, too. It is, of course, your right that they update details. |
