Posted - 20 December 2008 : 22:37:52 My name is Karen, I am having to declare bankruptcy, my debt is around £40k, it is from the 1990's and I have not had credit or a bank account since 2000, I have been using my mums bank account for all my payments of CB, CTC, and benefits and for the past 8 years have had an arrangement with my creditors but a couple of months ago my partner and I of 7 years separated so I am not on income support, I have just signed a tenancy agreement for rented accommodation, what will happen to my mums bank account, the only money that has been paid into has been mine for the past 8 years and it is just a basic account, no OD etc. Thank you for your help |

Posted - 21 December 2008 : 08:42:30 Hi KarenJ your Mum's account is safe even if only you have been using it. As TD says, as long as no large sums have been going in / out it's not a problem.
Also, when you declare bankruptcy it will not be frozen as the account is not in your name. Any current payments in or out will therefore continue without hassle.

Posted - 21 December 2008 : 00:42:28 Hi KarenJ (I'm a karenj by birth!) Well done to you not having credit since the 90's. Thats amazing.. If nothing dodgy has been passing through account then you are okay!, and by dodgy I mean like huge sums of money from unkown sources etc. Honestly., from reading your post, you have nothing to worry about.
