yes raise one yourself ensuring all the details are on it and it is signed by both parties and dated.
Make 2 copies, one for the seller and one for the purchaser.

how do you raise an invoice? do you just write one out yourself? sorry to sound daft but i have the same problem with and old car with no MOT and some minor problems, my brother said he might buy if the price is right but dont want it to look like i was selling on my assets and then i have my main car worth about 3,800 which im desperate not to lose. thanks |

I would suggest that this car, taking into consideration the age, mileage and mechanical faults is worth little to nothing.
If you have a buyer at £250 then sell.
Ensure you raise an invoice and note these points on it.
If your friend has a garage estimate for the repair this would also help later if any questions were asked by the OR.

Thanks for your link much appreciated. I went off the trade in price and knocked 10% off bringing it down too below £1500.
Could you please advice me how i could find out the price for a n reg golf 254,000 miles on the clock needs a new cylinder head gasket as it is undriveable at the moment. I have a friend who wants too purchase it off us for £250 but if i go bankrupt at a later date I want to cover my back so the or can't say it was sold at undervalue.

I wouldn't use parkers guide if I were you.
The bottom has all but fallen out of the 2nd hand car market rendering most, if not all, pre printed price guides redundant.
I sometimes use Autotrader.
Search nationally for a vehicle of the same make/model/year/mileage.
Find the cheapest available and deduct 10% for haggling. Chances are the auction value, which is where a claimed vehicle would be sold, is still a little lower than that but a better guide than Parkers / Glasses at the moment.
