Posted - 30 December 2008 : 12:59:27 we have a 2003 52 reg picasso diesel 2l exclusive with 83k miles on the clock. have checked parkers, which car and autotrader for the price and they all differ a bit.
what is the highest value car they will let us keep? is it £2k with no room, for example if autotrader came back with the lowest price minus 10% at £2100 ish would they still take it?
also the resgistered keeper is me but i dont work but husband does and this is the only transport we have. does this make any difference?
we are both going BR.

The 2k is a guide only used by the OR when considering the value of a vehicle. They look at other factors too when deciding if you can indeed keep it. Even if you had a car worth say £1k then there is no guarantee that you would be allowed to keep it as you have to show that you need the car and that no alternative arrangements can be made for travel.
So for example someone unemployed with a car worth the 1k this does not give them an automatic right to keep it unless they can proove they need the car to look for work etc.
Does that make sense.
