dazed and confused |
Posted - 05 January 2009 : 11:57:30 Dear Forum
Hope you are all well!
Well, as of this morning, I am now officially Bankrupt, and with it debt-free!
I have taken on the services of Paul Johns from Revivia UK and he has been brilliant - above all really friendly, supportive and non-judgemental - always there on the phone for me whenever I needed him, he made sure the Forms were all filled out for me ready for Court, accompanied me this morning at the Court to help me through it all, and will help me through the whole OR process over the coming weeks / months.
Cheers Paul!!! You are a star!!!
I had my Court Appointment booked for this morning at 09:15am. I arrived at the Court early, met Paul outside and we had a chat about what to expect. We both went inside just after 09:00am, went through the metal detectors and then made our way over to the Counter. We were met by the Clerk who took us into a small 'booth' then checked over the Forms, which I had to then sign 3 copies of and I had to swear an oath. We then went upstairs and waited for a while to see the Judge. It was decided that the Judge did not want to see me so was obviously happy with my Forms. We then went back downstairs and waited a while and then I had a brief telephone conversation for about 2 / 3 minutes with an Administrator / Junior from the OR Office who just double checked a few details with me - Bank Account numbers, addresses etc. - and then said that he would write to the RBS to try and keep my Basic Bank Account open and that the Examiner would call me back in 5-7 days to arrange a date and time for my OR Interview.
The whole process was not too bad - all the staff were ok and I was not made to feel like a criminal or anything nasty like that. We were out of there by 10:30am so just over an hour.
A big "THANK YOU" must go out to everyone on this Forum too - especially BankruptC, John and Need a Friend, who have all been great to me and helped me out whenever needed and offered support. Cheers!
I have just plugged my landline phone back in for the first time in months and turned my mobile phone off from being on silent - at least now if and when the Creditors call I can tell them I am now BR.
Well, it's been a crazy 6 months or so and I still can't believe it's actually finally done now. I think it will probably take a while to fully sink in to be honest. It has been a long and sometimes dark journey but feel that I am starting to see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
I've still got a few more things to do - OR Interview etc. but at least the first step is done now, and it feels ok!
I hope that by posting this others may feel a little less apprehensive about the whole process and my advice to anyone who is worried, apprehensive or unsure about BR but who realistically know it is their only last option is to do it sooner rather than later - looking back I wish I had done it months ago and therefore not have had to go through the past few months of worry, fear and sleepless nights!
My New Year starts today!
Sorry for the long message!
Good luck everyone and take care! |

Posted - 05 January 2009 : 20:25:24 Hopefully this will be how my husband and myself will be feeling next Friday 16th Jan. It really is helpful when you can see that others are in the same situation. The court side of things is not the thing that is worrying me it is the OR. We do not mind having to pay anything out of any extra money we have as we do only have ourselves to blame. We are keeping our fingers crossed we get to keep the house as we are in negative equity and my eldest son has just started school and we do not want any more worry for him. They do pick up on things. Fingers crossed and I am sure I will post more details as and when things happen.
Thank you to all you helpful people out there. I could sit and read all your blogs for hours. |

Well done for taking the big step.
I t will take a while for your creditors to be told of your status so, to avoid the usual harassment, it is legitimate to write to them all stating your bankruptcy order reference number and dateand refer them to the Insolvency Service website where your name will probably already be up in lights. Alternatively, just answer the phone and tell them the details. They'll soon slink away and leave you alone. |

You will be fine, like you have said you have Paul by your side and he will help you to just glide through.
It takes a while to sink in, i know it did with me and now its like im a new person with a whole new life ahead of me.
You take care and have pleasure when answering the phone to your creditors by saying "No i cant pay you im a BANKRUPT" it feels great telling them on the phone by the way ;-)

Posted - 05 January 2009 : 15:44:44 Cheers guys for all your kind words!
Yeah it does feel very strange - like a weight has been lifted - but at the same time not real. I think the reality will take a while to sink in really.
I am slightly apprehensive about the OR Interview as my case is not as clearcut as I would like but have a bit of time to compose myself and Paul Johns to help me through it so hopefully should be ok.
I will keep you posted.
Cheers again! |

Posted - 05 January 2009 : 13:24:19 Hi D&C
Well done on being debt free. I said in earlier posts that Paul Johns from Reviva UK would look after you. It’s good to have someone by your side who knows what they’re doing and are friendly along the way.
The court process is pretty straight forward and nothing to worry about. The interview is a little more daunting because you have to explain your situation and the reasons for your bankruptcy, but with the help of Paul Johns it should make it a lot easier.
All the best and let us know how you get on
