Posted - 06 January 2009 : 11:42:49 Im finding it really hard to get a bank account. I keep getting refused even for a basic cash card account. I dont want a prepaid card as I dont want to pay to use my money. Any suggestions of where would maybe accept me as a new bank account holder. Lloyds and Barclays are out of the question! Thankyou |

Posted - 14 January 2009 : 20:19:41 Hi Hanlou
I had my cashminder open since Nov 07 went BR Oct 08, rang the Co-op on a special number the customer service team gave me and they made a note on my account and assured me that it would not be frozen, which it wasnt.
I opened a second cashminder account about 4 weeks after BR for a bill account so keep bills seperate and can put any surplus in there, as my saving account was closed.
Good luck hope things go okay. You will be okay opening an account before BR just tell them you are planning going BR and the date, it will be fine.
Take care x |

I have had my account now since beg August last year and have not encountered any problems, thats why i suggested you give them a try, they are very good, the electron card is pretty much accpeted everywhere and you have online access too.
I would def give them a call and when you do mention about the bankruptcy to them to cover your own back.
I opened mine after we went BR but have no problems with them.
Best of luck

Posted - 14 January 2009 : 15:36:43 Thankyou everyone. I just had a look on website. Im going to give them a call after work and hopefully they will be open. I use my mums spare bank account at the moment which is ok, but becomes awkward if I have to do anything more than draw money out. I cant even set up a d/d without her having to sign for it, which is abit unfair to mum. Can you still pay by card in shops with a cashminder account or do you have to go to cash machine and get cash first? x |

Welcome kirsty
You could try the Coop Cashminder account. Nearly all of us on here have one and they have been great.
You can apply over the phone or in the branch.
