If you go BR in the UK, it does wipe out your debts worldwide. Where are you working? Did you list your foreign bank account on your SOA?

Hi

if the funds in an account, be it in the UK or abroad, are all that you have to live on for the weeks following bankruptcy then it's best to withdraw the cash prior to bankruptcy and explain the withdrawal to the OR at interview.

Can you not explain to the OR that you need this bank account to honour existing direct debits for rent , electricity etc. If you provided statements and the direct debit information to demonstrate that there were not excessive funds in the account.

Hi Nicolas

I see where your coming from. I took all my money from my account prior to bankruptcy and then opened a new account on the day of my bankruptcy, that way i had money and also an account that would not be frozen as it was opened after the hearing.

Dont know if this helps you at all

To quote the the insolvency web site

When a bankruptcy order has been made, you must:
stop using your bank, building society, credit card and similar accounts straightaway;

So if you are in another country,even if you declare your assets in this account to the OR, you cannot use this account.
How do you buy food etc? Buy a flight back to the UK?

the Official Receiver does not freeze your bank account, the bank does.

As your accounts are held outside of the UK the bank will not normally be in a position to check.
(UK banks check the London Gazette and Stubbs Gazette on a daily basis).

However, when declaring bankruptcy you are legally required to disclose both the income gained outside of the UK and the non UK bank account details.

If you don't and they are later found to exist by the OR then you could be charged with perjury.
