Posted - 07 January 2009 : 14:19:28 Hi John
I totally agree with you. It is all down to the individual at the end of the day and how comfortable they feel with doing this.
I know this site is great but we cant be there in person at the court when that member has their hearing and i know for me that kinda hurts as i would love to assist all of our members when they have to make the hearing.
I do wish i could do more for our members too.
Best of luck guys and gals.

Posted - 07 January 2009 : 13:40:43 Hi
any reputable fee charging bankruptcy firm would not take on a case unless it is clear the client will receive value for money which can be realised in various ways.
Free initial consultation, a considered plan of action, a hand held service at home the court and at interview, guidance and support throughout, quality court documentation and, where appropriate, protection of a business, marital home and/or future income.
It's true the simpler cases are best done by the bankrupt with a little guidance from a non fee charging facility, such as this site for example. However, in the greater proportion of cases providing you select the firm carefully and the fee befits the service required, there is real value in engaging professional services.
As I have said before, most would not enter a court of law without legal representation. Bankruptcy is no different but by definition often the client is not in a position to meet the fee costs.
There will always be the need for free advice which is one of the main purposes of the site.

Posted - 07 January 2009 : 13:03:04 I would disagree with that Pix1. Everyone considering the serious step of BR should take qualified advice, be it from an IP or CAB etc. This forum and the Insolvency Service website can only give generic advice and answer individual questions.
However, whether you should pay for advice or use one of the free debt assistance agencies is down to each individual and really depends on the complexity of that particular case. In my husbands case, we really do need someone to assist us and I know that paying Reviva now will save us money in the long term.

Posted - 07 January 2009 : 12:07:34 i would say that unless your bankruptcy is complex oyu probably would not need assisatance other than that you can get on this forum and through searching the Insolvency Service website. |

Posted - 07 January 2009 : 11:54:20 Hi GMS
I would imagine the fee charged by assisted bankruptcy companies depends on the complexity of your case. I used the services of Paul Johns of Reviva UK who helped from start to finish with my bankruptcy; he was excellent, understanding and friendly and is still supporting me now whenever I need it.
I had a good chat with Paul before my bankruptcy, which was free of charge and explained to him my situation. He then told what he could do and the fee involved if I wanted to use his services. So it costs nothing to make that telephone call for a chat.

It all depends on the company it could be by using a reputable company starting from about £1000 upwards.
If you do decide to use a company to help make sure you know what your getting, you need someone there to hold your hand every step of the way not just a form filler, as we can all do that.
