My husband is going BR. Today I have had British Gas out to our boiler, which is forever going wrong, hence why we have it on a gas cover contract. I've been told the expansion vessel has failed and it can't be replaced due to the age of the boiler. I've contacted the boiler manufacturer who have confirmed that they stopped making parts for this boiler 5 years ago and stopped making this boiler in 1994 (great isn't it - house was only built 8 years ago)

It is going to be around the £2700 mark to replace the boiler - what can we do? Hubby is going BR and I am financially linked to him so neither of us can now get credit. Both of us work and neither get any benefits.

Anyone got any ideas? Or do I learn to live with no heating or hot water?

Hello Julian, thanks for your reply. The house insurance doesn't cover and the gas cover only covers repair, not replacement.

I've been told I can't financially disassociate myself from him as we have a joint mortgage and joint secured loan. Also, we still have a joint bank account, although have both opened individual accounts, but HSBC refuse to close the joint account, despite us not using it now - they state it has to stay open as we have a joint mortgage with them.

Hi Mr and Mrs,

Heating and hot water is considered a basic requirement. Does your gas cover or contents insurance possible cover this (worth checking)?

If not, you can always financially disassociate yourself from your husband via the credit refernce agencies in order to get credit for a new boiler.
