Posted - 08 January 2009 : 18:06:44 Hi i am considering BR to my unsecured debts. I have had to leave my job to become a full time carer for my partner with severe mental illness. Will i loose my car? I need it for hospital trips each week and various other medical dept i have to take him to. Also it is extremely difficult to use public transport with a psychotic patient. My car is not of any great value about £500.00. Please can any one advise?

As long as you can proove without a doubt that you need the car then the OR should make it exempt. Although they have a guideline of the 2k mark for a cara value that does not mean they will automatically allow you to keep it.
You will have to show to the OR that you def need the car and then hopefully they will allow you to keep it.
You see for example if a person is on benefits, has a car worth 2k but is not working then the OR can infact say NO as they may not 100% need that car, but if they need it for job interviews or for taking the family to appts ect then the OR will look differently at the case.
I hope that makes sense.
